911 training excellence

How do you Choose Courses?
By Jim Marshall, Director
As a 911 educator, I was electrified by the words of Captain Jeff Skiles, co-pilot of Flight 1549 (think Hudson River HERO, splash landing, January 2009) when he spoke at the 2010 National NENA Conference in Indianapolis. According to my scribbled notes Captain Skiles said:
"The best safety device wasn't the Black Box--it was our training...We need to know what to do not when it goes all right, but when it goes all wrong!"

So much is riding on th
e training you get to do your job as a 911 professional, and the quality of that preparation can make the life-and-death difference for the caller. And here at 911 Training Institute, we also know that the way you're  equipped to manage 911 traumatic stress, suicide calls, and PSAP relationships can hugely affect your personal future.

Safeguarding your well-being as you pursue performance excellence is at the heart of our mission.

H
ere comes Mandatory Core Curriculum--are you ready?
The number of states and provinces establishing mandatory core curriculum for 911 training increases each month. And as you move to meet these new standards you're wise to carefully evaluate courses before risking taxpayer money and your PSAP's success.
The 911 community is fortunate to have many fine training companies offering courses on topics that don't require in-depth psychological knowledge. We concentrate only on those that do...

911 Training Institute's Special Niche: our focus is limited to offering North American PSAPs the finest available training exclusively on topics that require true mental health expertise, including:  Management of 911 Acute, Traumatic and Chronic Stress; Detoxing 911 Relationships; and, Management of Suicide Calls.  Borrowing on my clinical experience from the past 23 years, I've worked hard to design and deliver courses you can trust to give you knowledge and skills that will make the critical difference.

As Captain Skiles so powerfully pointed out, when it comes down to that single moment in which life depends on your reaction, doing your best means being WELL TRAINED.
My professional goal is making sure that you are!
