The Pursuit of Best Practice for 911 Dispatch in North America
We are now in an incredibly dynamic time in the history of emergency telecommunication in the United States and Canada. There is widespread recognition of the need to establish "best practice" standards for training of 911 dispatchers to assure core competency in serving the public. Yet states very drastically in their progress toward this goal. And within each state, opinions and views of shareholders differ greatly within states as they seek to define how training funds should flow, selection of training should occur, and trainers should be qualified.
In this section of our website, we will explore issues in establishing 911 Training Standards to achieve "Best Practice". This means assuring excellence in professional functioning. It implies a devotion to outstanding training and implementation, or to put it simply, doing the right thing, the right way, right when it is required, to get the right results.
